I never in a million years thought I’d ever consider such an expensive litter box. But autoimmune and being mostly bed ridden took such a toll on my health that I couldn’t easily squat to clean the litter box and my 2 poor kitties had to go days before I could have the energy to clean their box.
Then the litter robot arrives. I will say, be careful turning it on as it will run immediately and may terrify your kitties. I let mine use it first, then per the instructions turned it on to cycle while they could watch. It didn’t phase my one cat, but my skittish cat freaked and refused to use it for a while after that.
I kept the unit off for a week after that, and kept the old litter box nearby. I’d then cycle the litter robot once per day while I gave him treats and pets and got him curious and used to its activity.
After 5 days I took the leap and threw out his old litter box and even my skittish cat took to the litter robot. The key I think was hanging out with him near it and getting him comfortable and feeling safe with it.
Now, I can’t say enough great things about it. It’s saving me, it keeps the cats happy, and all the usual annoyances of a litter box are gone.
It really is SO quiet. I’m thrilled!

This is my second liter robot and I love it. I have one that I got 6 years ago and the second one I got about 7-8 months ago. My cats love it. They love the newer one better and they barely use the older model.

I bought my first Litter-Robot (the 3 connect) back in 2018, and it was…problematic. Due to this I almost didn’t give them a chance again with the 4, but I can say I’m fully satisfied I did! The 4 is a MASSIVE improvement in every way over the 3, I bought the litter hopper with mine (HIGHLY recommend this simple but handy addition), and its basically hands-off for 2-3 weeks with 2 cats in the house.
Cycling no longer makes any notable noise at all. The 3 was very loud, but never really bothered me personally. This new 4 is barely audible even when you’re squatted down next to it. The only reason I know its even cycling is the notifications I get in the app on my phone.
I had a lot of issues with the old 3 getting stuck mid cycle constantly, meaning the cats had no where to go, so they would go on the floor next to it. I travel for work and family a fair amount so this induced a ton of anxiety while traveling. The 4 hasn’t failed me once. I believe this is due largely to the newly designed sensor system the 4 has over the 3.
One note however, if you live with pretty much anything that isn’t hardwood or vinyl flooring (basically anything that isn’t perfectly smooth), buy the carpet tray. The 3 definitely had it’s own issues, but sometimes the cycling issues were due to the unit having been moved by myself or the cats over time and not sitting even on my tile flooring anymore. This throws the lower weight sensors off and makes them fluctuate while cycling resulting in freezing mid cycle. Now the 4 does a MUCH better job recovering from any disruptions mid cycle than the 3 ever did (I have a cat who likes to stand on the front step of the unit and watch it cycle sometimes, and it stops cycling until he moves away). The carpet tray not only holds the unit in place better (my cats have the usual zoomies after going, and like to spring vault out of the unit), but it gives those bottom weight sensors a consistent and even platform to sit on, meaning no more false readings.
The feeder in the bundle does a good job as well, and hasn’t had any issues thus far (it’s been about a month). It’s convenient having both in the same app. Not a lot to say there, it does its job and looks good doing it. This unit has a larger bowl than my previous feeders, which I can tell my cats enjoy as small bowls often give them whisker fatigue.
If you’re on the fence reading questionable reviews or having previous bad experiences with the 3, I’d say give it a shot. Yes these units are more expensive than most all others on the market, but as with everything in life you get what you pay for.
